The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) Junior Engineer (JE) recruitment 2026 selection process includes 1st Stage CBT and 2nd Stage CBT. The 1st Stage CBT is primarily a screening examination, while candidates shortlisted through the first stage will appear for the 2nd Stage CBT.
RRB JE Tier 1 Exam Pattern 2026
The 1st Stage CBT will be common for all notified posts. The examination will consist of 100 objective-type questions carrying 100 marks. The duration of the examination will be 90 minutes, while eligible candidates using a scribe will receive 120 minutes.

General Intelligence & Reasoning: Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding-Decoding, Mathematical Operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Classification, Directions, Analytical Reasoning, Statement-Arguments and Assumptions, etc.
General Awareness: Current Affairs, Indian Geography, Culture and History of India, Freedom Struggle, Indian Polity and Constitution, Indian Economy, Environmental Issues, Sports, Scientific and Technological Developments, etc.
General Science: Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences up to the 10th Standard CBSE level.
RRB JE Tier 2 Exam Pattern 2026
The 2nd Stage CBT will contain 150 questions for 150 marks. The examination duration will be 120 minutes, while eligible candidates using a scribe will receive 160 minutes.

Tier 2 Syllabus
General Awareness: Current Affairs, Indian Geography, Indian Culture and History, Indian Polity and Constitution, Indian Economy, Sports, Environmental Issues and Scientific & Technological Developments.
Physics & Chemistry: Questions will generally be based on the 10th Standard CBSE level.
Basics of Computers & Applications: Computer Architecture, Input and Output Devices, Storage Devices, Networking, Operating Systems, MS Office, Internet, Email, Web Browsers, Computer Virus and related topics.
Environment & Pollution Control: Environment basics, environmental pollution, pollution control strategies, air/water/noise pollution, waste management, global warming, acid rain and ozone depletion.
Technical Abilities: This is the most important section of Tier 2, carrying 100 questions and 100 marks. The technical syllabus depends on the candidate’s selected engineering exam group, such as Civil & Allied, Electrical & Allied, Electronics & Allied and Mechanical & Allied Engineering.
Negative Marking
There will be negative marking in the CBT examinations. 1/3 of the marks allotted to a question will be deducted for every wrong answer.
